Shlomo Avineri ›
Professor Shlomo Avineri is Herbert Samuel Professor of Political Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. Having previously served also as Director-General of Israel’s Foreign Ministry (1975–1977), Professor Avineri is also a distinguished author, whose widely translated books include The Social and Political Thought of Karl Marx (1968), Israel and the Palestinians (1971), and The Hegel’s Theory of the Modern State (1974). He is a recipient of the Israel Prize, the country’s highest civilian decoration. Professor Avineri graduated from the Hebrew University and the London School of Economics.
